2021 Sugar Show Winner

Marietta, Georgia native, Sam Opdenbosch, owner of Sam’s Cookie Company was awarded 2nd Place in an advanced decorating category at CookieCon Dallas. The international cookie decorating convention, hosted in Dallas, Texas this past weekend, is home to an industry renowned competition.

Opdenbosch, a licensed home baker and owner of Sam’s Cookie Company, entered a piece in the Advanced Division of the "Anything Goes” category of the convention’s Sugar Show competition. Her submission of a whimsical ice cream truck tied with the allusion of floating balloons was made of entirely edible materials, including cookies, royal icing, chocolate, gum paste and food coloring. Opdenbosch’s impressive structure was roughly 2.5” deep, 7” wide and 8.5” tall, complete with ice cream cone headlights, awning, double scoop ice cream and an assortment of balloons ready to carry it away.

In the “Anything Goes” category literally anything can be entered as long as it’s family friendly. The award received was 2nd Place Popular Vote in the Advanced category.

“Like most small businesses we have had to pivot and stay creative to get in front of our clients. This award is such an incredible honor to be recognized as a cookie decorator amongst my peers. The entire experience has been incredible. Thank you to everyone that voted for my piece and for my local clients who continue to support me and allow me to develop my skills day and and day out.”
